In the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), the government of Guangdong Province decided to establish Baoting County. On April 16, 1948, the Qiongya Special Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to set up the Democratic Government of Baoting County. In April 1988, Hainan Province was established, and Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County came under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province.
