Tiananmen square contains the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China in the square on October 1, 1949; the anniversary of this event is still observed there. Tiananmen Square is within the top ten largest city squares in the world (440,500 m2 880×500 m or 109 acres 960×550 yd). It has great cultural significance as it was the site of several important events in Chinese history.</h3> <h3>The Forbidden City is a palace complex in central Beijing, China. The former Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynastythe years 1420 to 1912, it now houses the Palace Museum. The Forbidden City served as the home of emperors and their households as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government for almost 500 years.</h3> <h3>One important cultural element in Beijing is hutongs.In order to help students understand this unique culture, We took a rickshaw tour to experience the hutongs. </h3> <h3>The Great Wall was originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the third century B.C. as a means of preventing incursions from barbarian nomads. The Great Wall is Perhaps the most recognizable symbol of China. It attracts millions of people every year because of its long and vivid history. We, of course will climb the Great Wall...</h3><h3><br /></h3><h3>We were lucky that the weather was good for a day to climb the wall. It was cloudy but didn’t rain. It was perfect! Although we all wanted to reach the top, only Patrick ,Cody , Rachel and Ming made it. </h3> <h3>Beijing Olympic Park is where the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympics took place. We didn’t spent whole lot of time there but felt it is worth of a short visit. </h3> <h3>The Temple of Heaven Park is located in the Chongwen District, Beijing. Originally, this was the place where emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911) held the Heaven Worship Ceremony. It is the largest and most representative existing masterpiece among China's ancient sacrificial buildings.</h3><h3><br /></h3><h3><br /></h3> <h3>Tea appreciation after the a long hot day is really nice. We got to try many different types of teas and learned how to make it. Many of the students bought some after the demonstration. It was a happy tea day!</h3>
