In 1950-1960, the Singapore noticed the importance of security, so they established the SAFTI College. Singaporean young males are required to serve in the military for two years after they reach the age of 18. This is strictly required by law. There are swimming pools and basketball grounds established for soldiers. People who serve in the army receive training here every day.

Interestingly, the roofs of these houses are triangular or semicircular. He discussed his own opinions on governing the country, management, and life, including his ideas on democracy, law, health, and life.

I was impressed by this book in many ways. For example, Lee Kuan Yew prefers discpline rather than democracy because discipline can provide individual's freedom at most while ensure the other's freedom in the society. I totally agree with him. Even though most people think democracy is very good and many goverments worldwide try to reach the democracy, it is more important to keep a well-developed descipline in the society to make sure everyone's benefit and to keep a stable and peaceful society. This can also apply to the school. The teacher makes up some rules to manage us and always emphsizes the inportance of discipline. We used to feel the discipline is very disturbant and were not willing to follow those rules. But now I see that teachers are just trying to make sure everyone can have a good school life under the rule.

After reading this book, I feel that Lee Kuan Yew is a realy elevated and admirable person. Besides, I obtain lots of living principles by reading this book.
