Plant can breathe like people

Plants do something else you don’t know. It has to do with the air we breathe.

Air is made of gases. One of them is oxygen. It is the gas that our bodies need. It is the gas all animals need. We can’t alive without oxygen.

Each time we breathe, we breathe oxygen in. But oxygen will be never used up. The reason is that trees and other green plants keep putting oxygen into the air. They give off oxygen as they make their food. Which part can make food for plants? So you know which part can give off oxygen now.

How can leaves make food?

Leaves make food with water which they take from the ground. They use a gas called carbon dioxide which they take from air. And they use sunlight as energy.

With energy from the sun, green leaves put water and carbon dioxide together. They make a kind of sugar. This process by plant is called photosynthesis. You also can say” putting together with light”

Plant need food to stay alive like people. They also need food for growth-to make new parts, leaves, twigs, fruits. While they making food, leaves also make oxygen that they don’t need. They get rid of it by putting it into air.

Experiment-How plants drink

what do we need

white petal flower

a cup

food colouring

Steps:

remove all the leaves from its stem

leave the flower out of water for an hour

Pour some water in the cup and add some food coloring in and mix it in.

Trim the stem at an angle because the stem can absorb more water in that way

Leave the flower in the cup for one day

Mila, what if leave the flower out of water for several hours?

Plant need water to stay alive and healthy. The flower will fall out and die.

Flower race

This time we are going to take two similar white flowers and trim one ,leaving a long stem and cut the other short.

Leave both flowers in the same glass of food coloring .
