I will see my grandpa and help him plant vegetables. I like to ride on the motor tricycle with grandpa. I like the motorcycle best.?

I see grandpa putting a pump into a pond and he wants to pump water through the hose to water the vegetables after planting. I like to water the baby plants.?

I walk along the irrigation ditch, but the ditch wall is so narrow that I feel a little bit scared. Mommy hold my hands and walk for a little while. Then I can walk by myself. I'm a brave boy. I get a Kohlrabi(/?ko?l?rɑ?bi/ 苤藍)from a green house and two corns. I like them.?

I see daddy and grandpa hold some bundles of baby plants to the vegetable field. I can see a vegetable field with some ridges and paths. I count the ridges and there are seven ridges here. Daddy tell me that we need to plant the baby plant on the ridges. I can't wait to get started. I get a little hoe and look at grandpa. I touch the soil. They are dry and rough. I like to play with the soil.

Look, these are the baby broccoli, we also called them the plug plants. Mommy put three baby plants on each row until all the rows are placed the baby plants. I don't konw how to do this job, but I look carefully how grandpa do.

When mommy call me to get her a bundle of baby plants, I hold one and walk toward her. The bundle is a little bit heavy but I can handle it. The path between the ridges are not even, I need to look carefully and keep balance. I did it. I want to be mommy's little helper. Look at me, I'm a strong boy.

I start to plant the baby veggies after mommy finishing her job. Mommy look at me planting the baby veggies. I make a hole on the soil and put the baby plant in the hole. Then I hold the baby plant with my one hand and backfill the soil/cover the root by soil with my other hand. Mommy says that I am good at planting baby plants. I'm so proud of myself. I plant one by one. I think I can plant more. I show mommy where the root and leaf are.

Planting veggies is so fun, but it is too hot and not a easy job. Look at my face, it is red and sweaty.

I find grandpa cutting some Chinese chives beside the ridges. I walk toward him and hold top part of the Chinese chives and pull it. Mommy tell me not to do that. It will destroy the Chinese chives. We need to cut on the lower part of it and it will grow out again after few days.

We have to go back Kunming before it is getting dark, so we need to go now. I can't water the baby plants. What a pity. But I am happy because I get veggies. And mommy tell me I can come back to see the baby plants few days later. Goodbye grandpa. Goodbye baby plants. I love the Kohlrabi and hold it in the car. Soon I fall asleep, maybe I'm too sleepy.

補充知識點:

1.Broccoli 西蘭花

Broccoli is an edible green plant in the cabbage family (family Brassicaceae(/,br?si'k?sii:/ 十字花科), genus Brassica(/?br?s?k?/ 芥屬)) whose large flowering head and stalk is eaten as a vegetable. The word broccoli comes from the Italian plural of broccolo, which means "the flowering crest of a cabbage", and is the diminutive(/d??m?nj?t?v/ 極小的,微小的) form of brocco, meaning "small nail" or "sprout".

Broccoli is classified in the Italica cultivar group of the species Brassica oleracea(甘藍). Broccoli has large flower heads, usually dark green in color, arranged in a tree-like structure branching out from a thick stalk which is usually light green. The mass of flower heads is surrounded by leaves. Broccoli resembles cauliflower, which is a different cultivar group of the same Brassica species.

It is eaten raw or cooked. Broccoli is a particularly rich source of vitamin C and vitamin K. Contents of its characteristic sulfur-containing glucosinolate(芥子油苷) compounds, isothiocyanates and sulforaphane, are diminished by boiling, but are better preserved by steaming, microwaving or stir-frying.

There are three commonly grown types of broccoli.

The most familiar is Calabrese broccoli, often referred to simply as "broccoli", named after Calabria in Italy. It has large (10 to 20 cm) green heads and thick stalks. It is a cool-season annual crop.

Sprouting broccoli (white or purple) has a larger number of heads with many thin stalks.

Purple cauliflower is a type of broccoli grown in Europe and North America. It has a head shaped like cauliflower, but consisting of tiny flower buds. It sometimes, but not always, has a purple cast to the tips of the flower buds.

2.Chines chives 韭菜

Allium tuberosum (garlic chives, Oriental garlic, Asian chives, Chinese chives, Chinese leek) is a species of plant native to the Chinese province of Shanxi, and cultivated and naturalized elsewhere in Asia and around the world.

Chines chives is a rhizomatous(/ra?'zom?t?s/ 根狀莖的), clump-forming(/kl?mp/ 叢,簇) perennial(/p??reni?l/ 多年生的) plant growing from a small, elongated bulb (about 10 mm, ?32 inch, across) that is tough and fibrous. Unlike either onion or garlic, it has strap-shaped(/str?p/ 帶子) leaves with triangular bases, about 1.5 to 8 mm wide. It produces many white flowers in a round cluster (umbel ( /??mbl/ 傘狀花序)) on stalks 25 to 60 cm (10 to 24 in) tall. It grows in slowly expanding perennial clumps, but also readily sprouts from seed. In warmer areas , Chinese chives may remain green all year round. In cold areas, leaves and stalks completely die back to the ground, and resprout from roots or rhizomes in the spring.

注:rhizome /?ra?zo?m/ the thick stem of some plants, such as iris and mint , that grows along or under the ground and has roots and stems growing from it 根莖;根狀莖

The flat leaves, the stalks, and immature, unopened flower buds are used as flavouring. Another form is "blanched" by regrowing after cutting under cover to produce white-yellow leaves and a subtler flavor. The green leaves are jiu cai(韭菜), the flower stem jiu cai hua(韭菜花), and blanched( /bl?nt?/ 發(fā)白的) leaves jiu huang(韭黃).

The leaves are used as a flavoring in a similar way to chives, scallions as a stir fry ingredient. In China, they are often used to make dumplings with a combination of egg, shrimp, and pork. They are a common ingredient in Chinese jiǎozi dumplings. A Chinese flatbread(薄餅) similar to the scallion(/?sk?li?n/ 蔥) pancake may be made with garlic chives instead of scallions; such a pancake is called a jiucai bing(韭菜餅) .

3.Kohlrabi 苤藍

Kohlrabi, also called German turnip, is a biennial(/ba??eni?l/ 二年生植物) vegetable, a low, stout(/sta?t/ 結實的,肥壯的) cultivar(/?k?lt?vɑ?r/ 栽培品種) of wild cabbage. It is another cultivar of the same species as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, Savoy cabbage, and gai lan.

It can be eaten raw or cooked. Edible preparations are made with both the stem and the leaves. Kohlrabi stems (the enlarged vegetal part) are surrounded by two distinct fibrous( /?fa?br?s/ 纖維構成的,纖維狀的) layers that do not soften appreciably when cooked. These layers are generally peeled away prior to cooking or serving raw, with the result that the stems often provide a smaller amount of food than one might assume from their intact appearance.

The bulbous(/?b?lb?s/ 球根狀的,鱗莖狀的) kohlrabi stem is frequently used raw in salad or slaws(/sl??/卷心菜絲色拉). Kohlrabi leaves are edible and can be used interchangeably with collard greens(/?kɑ?l?rd/散葉甘藍) and kale(/ke?l/ 羽衣甘藍).

注:Slaw:Slaw is a salad of chopped raw cabbage, carrots, and other vegetables in mayonnaise. 卷心菜絲色拉

4.Plug plant

Plug Plants are young plants or seedlings grown in polystyrene trays with individual cells filled with a peat or a compost substrate. The number of cells per tray varies (102, 144, 288, 512). The more cells that are in a tray, the smaller the plants will be. Plug Plants are primarily used for commercially raising vegetables and bedding plants in a greenhouse. Once these seedlings have grown and have a good root system, they are ready to be transplanted into larger containers or gardens.

Steps to transplant plug plant

Step 1: Fill each cell to the top with a seed starting mix. Prepare the plant tray first. Seed starting mix is a sterile alternative to potting soil that will help promote germination for your seeds.

Step 2: Wet the seed starting mix with a watering can. Push your finger into the soil to your first knuckle and make sure it is damp. Excess water should drain through into the tray underneath your cells.

Step 3: Poke a deep hole in each cell with your finger and plant at least 2 seeds in each hole. This helps make sure at least one of the seeds will germinate in each cell. If both of the seeds start to grow, you can always cut back or remove the weakest looking plant.

Step 4: Cover the seeds with seed starter mix and press it down with your finger. This makes sure the seed has complete contact with the starter mix. Be gentle as you press down. You do not want to push the seed in deeper; you just want to pack the soil closer. Seedlings can be watered with light spraying or sprinkling or even by soaking the entire tray in a soaking tub.

Step 5: Take out the seedling plugs from the seedling tray.

Step 6: Repot/Transplant the plug plants. Put the seedling's root ball in and backfill with garden soil.
